About Us
The "MAEIN" Center for Humanitarian and Development Work initiative, launched by Qatar Charity, is a unique project that embodies the charity's vision of localizing humanitarian work and maximizing the role of local actors. The initiative aims to enhance professionalism, transparency, and accountability in the work of local organizations, enabling them to rely on their own capabilities and play an effective role in crisis recovery and sustainable development.
Why did MAEIN come?
The Maein initiative emerged from extensive research aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the humanitarian and development system, with the goal of creating a more stable, sustainable, and prosperous world. The research found the following:
The lack of localisation of aid in recipient countries is a fundamental obstacle to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The current pace of localization suggests that the target set by the Grand Bargain agreements will likely not be reached for many decades.
There is a need to devise effective solutions to overcome barriers to localization—building on the relative strengths accomplished by field actors and their opportunities for growth.
